Is South Padre Island a good family vacation destination?
Hello Fellow FTE'rs.
My wife and I are trying to plan for a summer vacation for 2004. We are looking at going to south for a week. We plan to meet up with a married couple as a surprise and then we'll spend about a week out there. So it will be four adults(in our 20's) and our 2 yr old son.
Where do ya'll reccommend we stay? What are some good places to visit? What are places we should steer clear of? Are the sand beachs and water clean enough to play in? Do they have any white sandy beaches yet? (I haven't been out there since the late '80's.)
Thanks!

Im in cali now, but i was just stationed in Corpus Christi. There really isnt to much to do in South Padre unless you like to party. You could always go up to corpus and vacation there. There are plenty of beachs but there is more to do also.

cigarxtc,
SPI is a great place. Clean beaches, great eating places, lots of things to do. EX. rent dune buggies, wind surf, jet ski, and so forth. During the summer, every Friday a fireworks display over the bay, Mexico is about thirty minutes away. The area around SPI is great. Lots of things to do. but I agree, don't come during spring break. Also, you can get a better rate on hotel during August and September. Hey, our summer weather lasts from about March till November. Really.

I live in Corpus, and it's a nice place! Schlitterbahn is in S. Padre, and I take my two boys, 8 and 9 there often. It has areas for your two year old, and he would enjoy it! go to schlitterbahn.com. It's about 2 1/2 hours away from Corpus. Port aransas is nice, too. Come quick, though. weather is cooling off! Air conditioner didn't kick on too much today!
