do these bearings need greased before installation? or do they just get the grease from the zerks when installed? If so, what do you guys recommend?

Always a good idea to grease or lube any part before installation.

They're sealed, no way to get grease in

Wish I was near my parts right now. If CRS hasn't sunk in...isn't there an open "groove" in the inside of the bearing for grease to get into?
Agree that if the bearing is sealed you can't really lube it.

They should get grease from the bottom grease fitting. They are open on the inside and the bottom race has clearance around the kingpin for grease to come up from the lower bushing. The second photo is the correct way to install them.

I didn't think they were "sealed"

Since there's no specs listed in the catalog, these are a press fit into the spindle holes.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH (800-543-4959) has 1,209 87908-S8 & 9 87922-S8
I'm a great big Nerd and i'm doing king pins - My 'Lubricator Fitting' in my '57 M250 is the same part number (87922-S8) as your Left Zerk fitting above and is threaded. I looked here first for the thread spec and stumbled upon your post.

I very much enjoy your posts, and you're right more than 99% of the time - But, this time i beg to differ.

87908-S8 1/4-28 : 11/16 long : 15/64" thread length
: type 2 (straight)

87922-S8 1/4-28 : 31/32 long : 15/64" thread length
: type 3 (45 degree)

Two points for me?

Liebherr cranes have a similar set up for there thrust bearings. Also a equally nondescript illustrated parts brake down. After some Q&A with tech support and field reps one suggested to measure the inside diameter of the "top" and "bottom". The larger of the two openings would be installed towards the Zerk. Idea being the overflow from the greased stub pin would flow into the thrust bearing.

I just installed NOS bearings in my spindles and they were open. I packed them full of grease by hand before installing the kingpins.
