Will 2017 SDs to Get CarPlay & Android Auto?

Ford plans to install Apple CarPlay, Android Auto in entire 2017 lineup

[Emphasis mine]

“Customers considering a new vehicle can now choose any 2017 model year Ford car, SUV, light truck or electrified vehicle with SYNC 3 and be able to access their favorite apps.”

He says light truck - does that mean SDs will get SYNC 3 w/ CarPlay & Android Auto or does that mean we will not?

I realize that a lot of folks could not care less; but for some of us, having a constantly updated nav system (with real time traffic) is critical to our work.

I asked this same question a few months ago. No one seemed to know. I hope, really really hope we get Apple CarPlay with the Sync 3.

If we don't...big time disappointment for a truck being marketing as the "smartest super duty ever".

Maybe Josh can chime in on this? Or take a look while at the BFT Round Up in Denver?

Given how old the tech was in the previous super duty trucks, "smartest" is a pretty low bar to jump over.

You make a good point.

Hopefully having SYNC 3 means it can be flashed in if the truck doesn't come ready.

Super Duty pickups are consider 'light truck's. I don't see why the Super Duty wouldn't get what the rest get now since they all use the same hardware and software.

"The expansion brings CarPlay to already-released 2017 models such as the Fusion, Mustang, and Explorer, while other models like the 2017 F-150, Focus, Edge, and Super Duty will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year. "

My question is, will this only be on the premium hesdunitd with the touchscreen navigation? Or will the standard one have it too?

Thanks for the link. Although the article would seem to indicate that anything new with SYNC 3 will have CarPlay take the time to read the comments below. Not quite the glowing endorsement the op was looking for re maps.

Try the Ford Chat on the build and order page. For what they are worth they occasionally have answers to questions.

This is an easy answer - you have to have the 8" touchscreen with Sync 3. You DO NOT have to have Navigation built in.

The 2017 Super Duty will either come with Car Play or it can be flashed for free. The 2016 F-150 we bought will be flashed for free by the dealer when it becomes available. That vehicle has Sync 3 but no nav.

In reality, what would you want Car Play for except to stream the nav off your phone?

That's pretty much it. Nav off the phone, maybe music occasionally but having Google maps w/ nav *AND* RT traffic is huge.

I found another source that seems to back up that the SDs will also have CarPlay & Android Auto.
