Ford Tri Power ID help and Value

I found this Tri Power setup in S truck I bought recently. I didn't see any I'd numbers other than firing order on it. It had 3 Holly carbs on it. Anybody tell me what motor it's for and where to find I'd numbers and also what is the value

Motor it had come off.

Looks like a 7 bolt valve cover = 429/460 is my guess.

no its an FE motor because the intake has part of where the valve cover goes on. I know some 406 motors came from the factory in Galaxies with this combo. Do not know if it would have been an aluminum intake. Could be aftermarket. But it is an FE intake. 360,390, 406, 428, etc

DR is correct ,FE motor. These were used in the early 60's on 406 and 390 engines. The one you have appears to be OEM Ford. The good part is that you have a complete setup, fuel log , linkage, etc. It could have considerable value.Check around and see what they are selling for. A very good find.

X2! This looks like stock for set-up used in the early '60s. If it's complete (and it looks complete) it could be worth a decent amount of $$.
A quick look on e-bay, search ford tripower, I think you'll be surprised.

Where would I find casting numbers on the motor to ID the engine?

Casting numbers won't ID a Ford engine. The only really accurate way to ID is measure the bore and stroke. Exception is the 427, look on the side of the block, just above the oil pan. There will be three cross bolts for the main bearings on both sides.

Tri-Power (Ford: 6V) intake manifold/carbs could be from a 1962/63 Thunderbird 390, also available at the parts counter for 1962/64 Galaxie/Mercury 390; 406 (1962/63) or 427 (1963/64).

This set-up was standard equipment on 1962/63 Thunderbird Sports Roadsters, VIN engine code M

1958/64 FE engines have rounded valve covers without holes for oil caps, smog valves. Have an engine oil fill tube on the right front side of the intake manifold.

btw: Since the engine has an alternator, it's probably from a 1963 Thunderbird, as this was the first FoMoCo vehicle to come with them as standard equipment.

1965 was the first year that all other FoMoCo vehicles came with alternators as standard equipment.

What did you pay for the truck? That right there could cover your purchase price, and then some... I have seen just the intake, no carbs, go for over $500, complete setups can run $1000-2000 range!

Do you think it's more valuable or desirable to sell intake carb with the motor? Motor needs to be gone through.

Nope. The Ford Tripower setup is "backwards" from the way carbs are normally positioned. The reason Ford did this was simple. The front carb wouldn't clear the distributor if the carbs were positioned normally.
Here's another picture of a stock setup.

Yes, the carbs are mounted backwards. It's something Ford did back then. Look at a 427-8V,the carbs are the same way. As far as the angle, when installed on the engine, carbs will be level.

If I want to sell this engine and intake setup how should I advertise it? Not knowing exactly what engine it is and what year it is for sure. I would like to sell it but do not want to misrepresent what I'm selling either. Any help would be appreciated by me
