A peek inside.

Opened the hatch on the mixer barrel. Geez! About a half yard of cured and aged concrete in the head plus a couple of good sized loose slugs. I'm sure the PO has a good explanation.

I have been eager to see the inside of the barrel for a while now. Do you have a plan of attack to get the NOS concrete out of there?

That's pretty much the tired and true solution. I've heard many a horror story about making the new guy crawl inside the drum to chip hardened concrete out.

If that is your only option, please wear hearing and eye protection along with a respirator and please make danged sure that there is no possible way for the drum to move.

Good luck
Bobby

It was soft when parked.
Good luck with getting it out, maybe have an air hammer party with a lot of beer involved...

Makes my POs use of roofing tar as a rust balm look much less weighty. Yours is a very heavy, very loud, very slow solving problem. I'm glad we have our best man on it.

I think your best option is make a plan of air hammer diagonal cuts and let it crack some lines to break and lose its hold. I did hear of someone cutting 12 inch I beam in one foot sections and turning it but i wouldn't try it with that nice truck.

Drilling holes in it first would give it a place to fracture..

Love you guys, you're a hoot. Yep, air chisel, hearing and eye protection, respirator, and locked in gear. First is to get the loose big chunks out after I chisel out the concrete around the hatch.

I feel for you man. Been there done that a time or two. You might be in the market for a needle scaler in the future. Ear plugs and muffs. 3 lb. sledge and some hand chisels too. Put a fan in one hole to keep fresh air coming in. Good luck and be safe.
