You really need to take one out and try it.
This video has been posted before, but just in case you haven't seen it here goes....

that's beyond impressive.
so the downside is she gets thirsty when towing but as to be expected.what does she do running empty? probably more than make up for a good decent overall average economy anyway id imagine?

you need to understand; you've already taken a lose.the choice now is,how much more of a lose do you want to take? there is no winning by sinking over 5k into an old truck engine.im sorry but there just isn't.

it really seems just like the compulsive gambler doesn't it? they will keep sinking in money and more money despite the cost.hoping things will finally turn around and they just empty out their life savings and then go deep into debt trying to win it all back.you want to shake them, smack them and wake them up but what can ya do? then to make matters worse you have other people who have been sucked into this mentality and in a obscure way to help them cope with what they've done, they try to tell others to follow in with their mistakes like it's perfectly acceptable to throw good money after bad.
it's so sad.
i mean hey,all is fine for those well off and or setting good in retirement and can do as they want for fun but there are good hard working families going through very great hardships due to this damn engine.ah.what can ya do.
I totally agree. I'm done with this truck. I am negotiating for a 2015 in TX with the 6.2. If I can get the price right then I'm flying out on Thursday to pick it up. I'll take a beating on selling a broke truck with a lot of money in it, but I've already been beaten enough.

Killer for me is the commute, far too short for a diesel. They need to be worked hard, ideally over long distances.
Sure would like a 6.7 but price and complexity putting me off...

Its a beautiful truck, but I'm done with it.

I'm flying to Tulsa tomorrow to pick up a 2015 6.2L with 8500 miles on it. I'm thinking I will likely get the work done and sell the diesel. My 06 is paid off and I have time to advertise it and wait for an educated buyer that knows what he's getting with everything I have done to the truck in terms of maintenance and upgrades. I won't take less the 22K after upgrades and that looks like a good price considering what they are going for on eBay without any of the 6.0 problems addressed.

A diesel is kind of like a DRW for me. If you can get buy without both, do it. For me, the diesel-DRW is the best choice.

Enjoy the new gas engine truck!

Only problem with gas, is you need a gas station behind you when towing. The 6.0 had problems but is a great engine when addressed all at the same time. Would of saved you money.

Knowing what I know now I would have fully bulletproofed my 6.0 when I bought it. I never tow more than 200 miles at a time. We do most of our camping within two hour trip from the house. Lots of great camping close by.

I know how you feel. I felt like I got let out of prison when I traded my 08 diesel in for a 6.2.
Yes I know there's a time and place where it has to be diesel.

Good analogy! I'm really weighing my options here.

1. Fix it and sell it at a premium and hope for the right, educated buyer.

2. Let it go with needed repairs and take all the new parts in the shorts.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

Just drove my new 6.2L home from Tulsa last night. 11 hours on the road is a good way to get acquainted. Nice truck! All the bells and whistles. The one thing missing is a sunroof and it has hub caps, which I didn't even know was an option at this price range. I couldn't tell from the pics. My 6.0 has real 20's and those Toyo's have less miles so I'll swap them out today. It definitely lacks the low end and I'll miss the diesel in the mountains, but it will get us there with less of the headaches.

If you were closer I'd be tempted to take it as is.

Yeah, too bad. It is a nice truck. I just drove it again yesterday and I'm going to miss it. It is truly night and day going from a diesel to a gasser. I'm going to miss the torque.

Just curious, but what do you think its worth as is?

The price bracket I am working in is $4k-$5k for a non-runner. Yours is probably in the $8k range with the work that's already done.

For the money it better be. I think what it boils down to is what the mechanic tells me tomorrow. If it is simply a water pump then I'll likely use it through summer and then sell it. Where I go from here probably depends on what I get for my truck. Its had a lot of upgrades and brand new injectors so I'm hoping I can get at least $20K, but I haven't looked at the market yet.

I've heard the same thing. If I upgraded to a newer truck it would be in the 2012-2013 year range. So I'd be looking at the 6.2 or the 6.7. Thanks for the feedback.
2011+ SD Gasser will do what you want. Will it rev? Of course- that’s not a reaction to towing, that is what it’s supposed to do! Will it shift? Of course, that’s what it supposed to do so it can rev! Don’t make a gasser a diesel and you’ll be fine. Can your diesel rev to 4000+, hold it and not spin itself apart? Of course not, thats ludicrous- so don’t ask my 6.2 to hold 1900rpm, cruise on,in varied terrain. Let each do what it’s supposed to do within the parameters of its design. For DD and your towing needs ( very similar to mine) the answer is obvious BUT it’s your cash and therefore make yourself happy.😎
