F250 rear view mirror fell off!
I have a 2006 F250 and the other morning I came out and found the rear view mirror laying on the cab floor. No biggie, I'll just glue it back on. Then I noticed the small black decal looking thing on the inside of the windshield. My question is, does this have to come off in order to re-install the mirror with standard Permatex mirror adhesive, or do I just put adhesive on top of it? Also, is there a different, specific adhesive used here that won't crack the windshield 2 weeks from now, like I read about on some other forums? Thanks in advance for any and all info.
Update: Took a closer look and realized they used a thin adhesive patch to attach the mirror. I'll get one from the dealer.

No biggie. Get a clean razor and scrape the old adhesive off. Clean the area with alcohol and same for the foot. Put a drop of new glue on the foot and hold it there for as long as the instructions say....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT RIGHT END UP!....don't ask how I know that's kind of important. I always had good luck with the little kit at advance or auto zone....same stuff.

The rear view on my 06 XLT didn't fall off BUT the sliver started coming off leaving a lot of black veins in my mirror. Since mine is only an XLT and didn't come with the factory outside temperature display or the compass display I ended up purchasing a display mirror off eBay for $45.00 - not exactly a necessary item but since my old mirror bugged the hell out of me I went with something like this. I was very pleased with the results.
