Upgrade of Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate

I need some advice.
I want to replace the Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate on my 1965 F100, 352, 4 speed. I would like to know if I should spend more and get a high dollar kit or buy the basic kit as listed at O'Reilly's. Prices at O'Reilly are around $99 while I have seen $200+ as well as $300+ at Mac's, Summit, Jegs etc. etc. Is the higher dollar kit going to provide me with a better product?
Hope I am making sense.
Appreciate any help and/or advice and/or experience.
Thanks

Do you tow? If you tow at all, I would spend a little more. If not, cheap is fine.

My advice is to avoid anything that says Fenco on it. The cheaper parts save money but that's not so important to me when the time and effort are considered. I've had good results with LUK products.

Eric,

I'm glad you said that! I'm just putting in a new LUK clutch and throwout bearing this week.

Thanks for all of the info and advice. I won't be towing so I will go with less expensive and I will go with LUK and stay away from FENCO.
Thanks again guys!

Chad - and a pressure plate? And don't forget to have the flywheel ground.

Thanks for asking. Got the LUK Pressure Plate, too. Here's the flywheel after I ground on it some.

It's also wise to have the flywheel and pressure plate balanced as a unit.

I bought a Luk clutch kit 07-027 from Amazon for $100. I see it's on sale for $95 today.

I haven't installed it yet, but when I researched here and other FE forums, people seemed very happy with this setup.

I haven't read anywhere that the clutch disc and pressure plate need to be balanced together.

Regards,
Corey

It needs to be done at a machine shop. You don't balance the clutch disc and pressure plate. You balance the flywheel with the pressure plate installed.

It is not a necessity but it is pretty cheap and ensures that you will not have any balance issues. Simply surfacing the flywheel will alter the balance, usually insignificantly and pressure plates, particularly at the lower end of the price scale, are not usually balanced.

I have had good luck with Luk as well, but Valeo makes a really nice diaphragm clutch as well.

It looks like this rather than having the 3 finger pressure plate that came with the truck. Provides lighter, smoother pedal pressure - I'll let you know when I get mine running.

That's good info about the diaphragm clutch. I saw those when I was looking for a clutch kit. I stayed with the 3 finger clutch. I didn't know that the diaphragm would make for smoother shifting. I would be curious to know your thoughts once you get it installed and working.
