2011 F-150 Piece of Junk!

I am so disappointed I wasted so much money buying a Ford. Its good looks took me for a fool!

I bought a new truck in order to avoid having problems that older cars may have. Turns out I was completely wrong. I've had more issues with this Ford Truck than any Chevy that I have owned. Built Ford Tough. Ha. What a joke!!

Driving home down the highway doing 100km an hour the truck decided to slam the transmission from 6th gear to 1st gear locking and skidding the tires.

Ford had sent me a recall notice in the mail saying they new about this issue but didn't have a fix for it.....

This is a HUGE safety issue. I am lucky there was no traffic on the road while I was driving otherwise I am sure I would have been rear-ended (which may have been better so the piece of crap could have just been written off).

I took the truck in to Ford as I found an article saying they would replace the speed sensor in the transmission to fix the problem. When I got there all the service guy could tell me is that they didn't have a fix yet and wouldn't until August 2016!!! What kind of answer is that!!!!

Ford recalls 202K pickups, SUVs, cars to fix transmissions | Business News | US News

I ended up leaving the truck there because its not like I could drive it anywhere else.

Ford technicians are completely USELESS!!! When my truck was under warranty I had a pinging sound coming from the engine bay when it got cold outside. Took the truck into Ford multiple times but they could never "replicate the problem". I got tired of the useless twits, so I took the starter out and oiled the gear. Haven't had a problem since.

One thing for certain I will never buy another piece of Ford crap again.

A 2011 isn't new. Or have you just been stewing for six years?

Well, as a guy who has owned multiple Chevys, Rams, and Fords.. I can say with certainty that going from a Ford to a Chevy is like going from chicken pox to cancer. So good luck.

Having said that, it IS bullcrap that the '11 and '12 models were such garbage. Numerous major issues with the engines, transmissions, body leaks, front hub failures, inoperable parking brakes, etc. The kind of stuff that should have never made it to market. Ford claims that they do the most harsh durability testing in the segment on the F-150 and I call B.S. on that. If they tested these trucks as much as they say they do, these kinds of issues would be found and rectified before millions of them are sold. So I do feel your pain.

Good luck with your Silverado. I hope you live close to the GM dealership. You're going to get to know the service manager pretty well.

Good luck with whatever you choose to buy, they all have issues. My 2011 has been flawless for me with 44k on it now, nothing I can really complain about.

I was with a friend of mine yesterday who had his 2014 GMC Denali 3500 DRW in the shop to have the rear axle replaced and figure out why it's dying on him. They gave it back and we didn't even make it back to his house before we noticed the rear axle howling like crazy on the freeway. Then making the turn onto his road it died.

The only automotive company that has left me on the side of the road multiple times is GM, never had a ford leave me stranded anywhere.

Six of us in my neighborhood have '11 and '12 trucks with 5.0's and 3.5's and none of us have had any issues what so ever. Mine is the only commuter of the six and has the least miles, the others are worked pretty hard.

Hi Tseekins,

Get ready for it because I am sure it is coming. I never had any issues with the transmission and then all of a sudden bam! It will hit you hard. My truck has 190,000 kms or about 120,000 miles.

Huge safety issue! I'll let you know what the stealership trys to charge me for this.

Pretty happy with my 2012. It's been worked pretty hard for most of it's life. Currently with 90K on it, everything is working great.

I'm not making excuses for Ford in your case, but I bought my '02 Ford E150 after trading in a '96 GMC Savana van from Hell that I bought new.

In 66k miles the Savana went thru 7 valve bodies, 3 transmissions, a starter (which stuck ON), an alternator, 2 fuel pumps, 4 or 5 oxy sensors, intake manifold gaskets that the Dexcool dissolved, and multiple other problems. It was dead on the road a number of times due to these problems. The "check engine" light seemed like it was on more than it was off. My Ford van never once stranded me in double that many miles.

Good luck getting your Ford taken care of but don't believe that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

George

I had a 97 chev truck that I replaced the starter in it once. No transmission issues.

92 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme that I changed the fuel pump on it.

Ford truck left me stranded and technicians don't know how to fix the problem..... Yet numerous articles have a solution to the problem.

It wouldn't be as much of an issue if the idiots could do a proper recall....

So, I'm guessing that this thread is a continuation of this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-slipping.html

How many miles were on the truck when you bought it, or, was it new? Either way, 120K in five years is a ton of driving. Has ANY maintenance been done to the truck at all?

So, you're suggesting that I rush right out and buy a new vehicle from another car maker based on your experience? I think not brother. The 6R80 has been used in the F-150 since 2009 and your experience is in the minority.

If you're not happy then I guess you know what you need to do. Happy trails.

I bought the truck brand new. I've done all the maintenance myself. Truck has been well maintained and not abused. $700 - $800 to fix the issue....

Sorry you had bad luck with your truck but every brand has it's lemons and with all the technology on these newer trucks the odds are higher that you will have problems. Our 2012 F150 has 55k on it and we haven't had a lick of trouble with it and my buddy trades every three years and he has never had any real trouble with any of his Fords.

I wouldn't call my 2011 F150 a piece of junk, but I am disappointed in it. 5 years old, 46,000 miles. Tailgate collapsed this spring loading a garden tractor. Showing rust in the rocker panels. When they replaced the bed, there was rust building up around the wheel wells of the old bed. Has many squeaks and rattles that I can't seem to find.

I have a 2012 Mustang to finish paying for, and then the F150 may disappear.
