The 7.3 is going to like an rpm range a bit lower than the 351w. You will probably be ok with most stock gearing, depending on the tire you run.

I know you want that oil burner, but a fresh, carb'd 393W would be my simple minded answer. You wouldn't get the diesel torque, but you'd be miles ahead of the stock motor without all the changes to the truck.

I did think about stroking the Windsor...I wish it was carbed...I know how to tune them...let me ask why does everyone say "all the.changes you.have to do"? Its just bolt the engine/trans in and run a simple rubber fuel line .. I dont see any significant changes...just little dumb stuff....and ok maybe the gasser will do just fine but 15ish mpg vs 7ish mpg....that alone is what gets me...diesel is less than gas around here lately.. that money saved will pay for the small stuff in no time....plus getting diesel from work. Plus the fact that diesel engines last a life time....thanks again... I have to admit that you may have me just putting the gasser back in... for now lol but I will just keep looking for a diesel or buy one and rebuild it...

Post 8 and post 12 outline some of the bigger items, and there will be lots of smaller ones.

It appears you might be exempt from smog inspection--right? Commercial vehicle over 10,000 lbs GVWR. Or not in a smog county. Right?

With no inspection, you can convert your 351W to carb easily. I don't know the specifics on your motor, but the SBF forum regularly has threads on 351W mods. Conanski has the number on all those motors. You may or may not benefit from later model heads.

I don't know....I'm still thinking diesel engine would be a better choice.....maybe I'll just have to find a whole truck for a downer
