The 2" foam I used for my seat restoration was just thick enough where the back just touches the seat. Here is my thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...y-56-f500.html

Interesting observations. In all the years I've had these dealer catalogs I never noticed the difference between the standard and the Deluxe, for the 53-54, or the Custom Cab, for the 55-56! And I have studied them a lot.. Thanks!

The 53 Deluxe Cab does have some foam, just not 5" of it. The foam with the holes in the underside would make a difference.

I wish I had used just one inch of foam.

Also, something I noticed is the top of the seat back in the 53 and 54 trucks has a top with vinyl material about 3" wide. The 55 and 56 the woven vinyl material goes straight up and around the seat top and it is a lot thinner. I noticed this with my 55 stock seat and confirmed it by studying the 53-56 catalogs.

Another difference I noticed between 53-55 seats and 55-56 seats is the front bolster. In 54 seats (the 53 were all vinyl not woven vinyl with a contrasting side and front pieces, the front vinyl or bolster goes the whole way around the front of the seat. In the 55-56 seats the side bolster tapers down in the front and does not go the whole way around the front. See the pics below and teh catalog pics above:

Getting ready to take my seat in Abe, so I pulled this thread back up. Do you know if this 55' upholstery style is available anywhere? I have searched the World Wide Web with no luck. I know the material is next to impossible to match but I would like to stay with the 55' styling. Thank you by the way for posting all the good literature.

Are you looking for those colors or just that style of stitching? Lebaron makes 56 covers. Dennis

I'm greedy Dennis. I want my cake and eat it too After a lot of searching and reading of forums I do not think the seat material is available exactly as is. Mine was exactly like Abe's. His is in incredibly good shape The red skirting can be matched up pretty closely though. As far as the style........I was looking for it in a premade cover so I could reupholster the seat myself. Trying to save a little $$$$ All the seats I have looked at in the catalogs/online, have the red bolster going all the way around the front and sides of the seat. I'm sure a professional could replicate the same styling. Just exploring all options before pulling the trigger.

Go to SMS Auto Fabrics at: https://smsautofabrics.com. Give them a call and ask them to send you a sample. Be sure to tell them you have a standard cab not a custom cab. They have NOS material and he said they are now reproducing material. They will send you a small sample. Do you have an upholstery shop in mind? Show them a picture of this 55 seat.

Are you going with foam or cotton batting? There is another thread about seats going right now.
