Anyone towing a 26 to 30 ft boat

I know this is a funny question here, but I would like some input from you guys vs the towing forum where everybody want to debate CDL stuff.

Here is my situation : We are considering a move to Puerto Rico next year. I thinking about getting a used 26 to 30ft trawler or cruiser. Something that I could fix/use now the ship to PR for use down there.

Some of the boats I am researching have 8'6" beams others have 9'2", 10' upto 12. Weights from 5k to 11k. I KNOW OVER 8'6" is a permit.

What I am look for is how do our trucks handle boats , getting them in and out of the water.

Thanks

i would not advise it in salt water, those ramps get slimier than slimer

Indeed, if it's a steep ramp or into tidal water you'll want at least a locker or preferably 4x4. I do have to lock the hubs regularly with my open rear truck. The truck with the locker it's pretty rare but occasionally required around low tide if particularly slimy. That's with a relatively light 23' boat. I'd be concerned with any 2wd truck trying to haul a 30' cruiser on the steep ramps around here.

We have a 35ft boat at work. When we haul it out of the water the F250 normally used needs to use it's air bags because of how heavy it is. Of course they bought a trailer that is too small as well. The 3 axles on it strain when towing. We do have to use 4x4 to get it out

Traction for hauling out is part of the problem

Mine is 27 ft and 6500 lbs. To launch and retrieve on my own I add weight on the bed, 2 x oil drums of water, a half ton, and an adjustable rod to activate the brakes on all wheels via the foot pedal. (Jams against the seat)
The fore and aft rocking as my boat goes on and off the trailer can lift the rear frame hitch enough to lessen grip for rear wheel park brake enough to allow small slide.

Quite right about the weed/algae/slime issue. Helps a bit to drive through a low rear park brake setting with the c6 even with LSD.
