CS144
Has anyone swapped a GM CS144 alternator into a dentside? I have one in the garage that doesn't fit anything I own so i figured i could try it. Case clocking will be a bit of an issue but i can work that out. I curious about the wiring. My truck has the oem amp gauge and all the diagrams for the CS144 show charge lights. I have also read that the light can be omitted by substituting a 50 ohm resister. I can sit down with the diagrams and work out the interface, I'm just not sure how it will get along with the stock charge gauge. I know i will have to upgrade other wiring to handle the 140 amp potential.

I would forget the stock charge guage. They never did work very well and if you did rig it in place, it's not big enough to handle the higher output.
Once you get rid of the original charge/battery wire and install a larger wire from the alternator to the battery, that will eliminate the original gauge anyway and the new alternator won't care if it works or not.
If you want something to show charge I would either add a charge light to the dash somewhere(really useful to tell you if it's working or not) and or add a voltmeter gauge somewhere.
