Question

The previous owner installed an aftermarket grill. Is it possible that it's blocking some air flow to the transmission cooler and radiator? Here's a picture:

Possibly between the billet inserts (in both the upper and lower openings), the bull bar and aux lights you may have a little bit of an air restriction vs a stock setup.

The 1990's called and they want their grill back (sorry Stewart ), I truly doubt that billet restricts that your intake, NVA (net ventilation area) is most likely neutral.

The only reason I still have something similar (and I mean the ONLY) is because of the 4 offroad lights I have behind the grill.

The only reason I still have it is because I have other things on my Excursion "list of things to do" that have a higher priority.

I run the Dorman 6.0L cooler I got from Rock auto on my 7.3, and haven't had one single issue. It cooled my trans down a lot too.

3/8 to 1/2 adapter

I picked these up to connect the two different sized hoses from the factory cooler to the Dorman 6.0 cooler: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151294247465?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Just curious if anyone knew of any reason that these wouldn't be a good choice for transmission lines/fluid? I wouldn't think there is, but I thought I'd double check here.

Stainless steel....... guaranteed to never shrink, stink, wrinkle, or rust ! They look as good as the brass ones on Amazon.

These are the best, exactly what I used too.

That's good to know. I originally bought some brass ones, but it turned out that the 1/2 inch barb wasn't. I don't know if it was a PEX fitting or what, but it didn't fit tightly into the 1/2 inch ID hose. Plus, the two sides were screwed together using an O-ring. Id rather have one solid piece and less chance for something to leak.

I replaced our stock V10 2002 Excur 4 speed 4R100 cooler with the Dorman 918-216 31 row trans oil cooler that is used with the 5 speed 5R110W and it works great. We tow on the west coast where it can get up to 115 deg. The 5R110W cooler uses 1/2" tubing which reduces the cooler line pressure even though it is a much larger cooler. This allows the option of adding a 3rd cooler or a filter without increasing the cooler line pressure above stock. If the cooler line pressure gets too high the bypass tube can kick in.
