Hard starting

Hi,

I have a 460 carb e-350 dual fuel tank, that after a couple days rest is hard to start.

The engine is cranking but
it takes long time to reach fuel to start. It almost drain the battery.

When it has only hours or 1 day rest, it starts 1/4 turn.

Someone could help with clues on this? Am I due to a carb rebuild?

Thank you.

You may have electric fuel pumps ala EFI. Ford did this with some 460s and called it the "hot fuel" option. If so, try turning the key to run without cranking the engine for a bit before you try to turn it over. The electric fuel pump will have a chance to bring up your fuel pressure this way. At that point it should start easily, like you've driven it recently. If that works, start thinking about why the system isn't holding pressure rather than thinking about rebuilding the carb. If drivability and power are good, then I would leave the carb alone for now.
