Water Pump

Hey All,

Getting ready to do a water pump on a 08 6.4 about 100k on it. I'm a 6.0 guy and know my way around, jut want to make sure this is pretty straight forward and no special tools/surprises that you guys see.

Also anything else I should do while I'm in there, obviously coolant flush and a serp belt, but is there anything that is a common failure on the front of these that I should pay particular attention too while I've go it apart?

Thanks,

Sarge

Ive done 1 or 2 and looks like a 6.0. the only other thing I would do is a pair of t stats while im there. The o rings seem to come apart and will affect heat and throw the P0128 t stat code.

....along with a P00B7 as well, which will put the truck into "power reduced mode".

The fan clutch hub is left hand thread, meaning when you loosen it, you turn it in the opposite direction as you would when doing the same on a 6.0L diesel. These 6.4L engines like to eat primary drive belt tensioners so pay attention to its condition during belt removal. The biggest and single most important, is the front cover. They like to erode and cavitate in the area behind the water pump, so pay attention to its condition when you have the water pump out. The replacement front covers have a channel machined into it now to prevent a repeat failure. Usual symptoms for front cover cavitation on one of these engines, is coolant contamination into the crankcase. Good luck and have fun.
