6.2 has some serious power!

Hi all this weekend I put 3360 lbs of cement in the bed. I bought a pallet of Quickcrete...I have the 6.2 CC Shortbed F250 with the 3.73 gears. It sagged a bunch because the skid was too far back. But the truck from a dead start had tons of power. It was nice, the truck did not struggle with the weight. I just drove. It was actually a soft ride since the rear was so far down. I have the overloads and the sway bar. Very impressed. This weekend I'm picking up a TT that'll weigh about 7k. This truck will handle it without any issues. I'll probably have to use the cruise control to keep the speed down! LOL.

I was thinking about sticking the bike in the bed as well, plus the Gennie, coolers, Kayak on the rack. It'll have everything you could possibly carry I guess. I get it that it's not as effortless with the Diesel. But this is the most powerful truck I've ever owned. It sure beats my 4x4 S-10 with the 4.3!

They scream pretty good over 4K rpm don't they..... I tow a 9,500lb 5th wheel with a 1,200lb pin weight and it does very well....Towing that weight, I feel like I have way more truck than I need, and just enough engine... It's super stable and confident.....I miss the torque of a tuned Diesel, but the reliability and low maintenance of this truck was a really good trade off.

6.2's are meant to be worked they are a truck engine, very reliable and strong, not delicate at all. I really enjoy using manual mode it takes me back to a stick shift mentality, where I can predict what the needs are before the truck gets there. I just love being able to work the powertrain with me in control

Bingo...I pull my 12,000 lbs. 5th wheel that way. Works great, even with 3.73 gears....although I would rather have 4.30s

Ditto. My truck seems to run better under load. Unloaded I keep trying to hot rod it but have to remember it isn't a Lightning.
My tuned 6.0 would flat haulAss but routine maintenance was expensive. Thank God it never blew up on me.

I ran a towing tune on my 6.0 and it was a beast..... it would suck you back into the seat with the camper in tow....

Things started going bad on my NY to FL trip in March.... I noticed coolant and oil temps started getting very far apart....As I got further South and the weather got hotter, EOT and ECT would be 55 degrees apart from each other....I was running the truck on the verge of shutdown for 2800 miles....very very stressful.....It did get me home safely but the damage was done....heads lifted, oil cooler clogged, egr cooler ruptured...I couldn't believe it got me home.

It was going to be $5k to bullet proof it with me buying all the parts and my buddy in the shop hooking me up...... The truck was 11 years old, rusting out, had the usual 6.0 problems, and was RWD....It was time for a change....Traded for the 6.2 and I'm not looking back.

I have an epic road trip starting Sunday for 20 nights all over Upstate NY and New England....This will be the real test for me with this 6.2..... I think it'll do well.

Just finished a 5,000 mile trip from DC to Wyoming and back, about 1,800 miles there with a 10,000 lbs trailer and load, 1,000 miles while there hauling wood (up to 3,000 lbs in the bed) for a garage project, and then 1,800 miles back with the empty trailer. The total weight of truck and loaded trailer on the way out was 18,740 lbs. no issues with the truck at all, and other than the gas mileage, I couldn't even really tell it was there.

How was your MPG loaded and unloaded? Is yours a 4x4?

Yes, it's a 4x4. Gas mileage was about 6.5 mpg on the way out, and about 7.5 mpg on the way back. I had limited time for the trip so I went 70-75 mph both ways, if I had more time to go slower, I'm sure I would have done better on the gas. Trailer weighs around 4,500 lbs empty.

3.73's are simply brutal for towing mpg. 4.30's are the way to go on the 6.2. From my research and reports I have read, the 4.30's will add at least 1 and likely 2 mpgs.

^^^^x2^^^^, and I'm reminded every time I see my dads regular cab truck. He pulled out from my house the other day and hammered it. The regular cab that is minus one resonator sounded great, and with 4.30 gears took off very well. Bad part is, his initial order was 3.73's, I talked him into 4.30's. Just being a good son I guess, but I'm so jealous. Im hoping he decided he doesn't want them, then we can just swap axles, but I don't see that happening.

Getting the 4.30's was the best decision I made when ordering my truck and I did a lot of research on this site before making the decision. It was also the hardest decision but after getting my truck and driving it for a little while, man, I could not be happier!
