1972 F-600 LN Dump Truck

I cracked my crankshaft and need to find a new motor to put into my truck. Only thing is I don't know what kind of motor it is so I would like to know how to find out, and also If I could upgrade. This needs to be the industrial motor due to hauling heavy loads. I was told by the previous owner that it was a 361 motor, but I would like to know for sure. If it is a 361 would I be able to upgrade to a stronger motor.

welcome to FTE. probably is a 361.
the upgrade would be a 391, as they are both FT engines.

Curious

What about mounting and radiator size. And where could I purchase a motor. I've tried looking online but having no luck.

391 is the same basic block as the 361. same radiator and mounting. all external parts interchange.
a truck junkyard is the place to look for one.

Okay so I have been talking with some construction mechanics and they tell me that this motor that I have in this truck may not be the original. How would I find out what the original motor was. This is a dump truck so I assume but not sure that it would have to be a motor that is meant for this kind of truck. How do I make sure that I'm not getting a little truck motor, and its a dump truck motor.

Post some pics of the distributor area, and the valve covers from as straight on as you can, we can tell you exactly what engine family it is.

id yank it and put in an old idi diesel/manual 4 speed setup.simple, non emissions,no computer controls, easy fabrication swap and more economical to buy and operate.

Okay I just wanted to thank you all for responding, I know I didn't get back sooner but had some family things going on and now Im back at it with this Damn F600 Dump truck. I will post some pics later. I am having issues putting everything back together. and having a hard time finding some parts.
first I cannot seem to be able to put my power steering pump and resivore back on. It has the cooling pipe that wraps around the resivore. Theres a bracket that I just can't seem to figure how it mounts to the motor and to the pump. I should have taken lots and lots of pics.
Second I am trying to find the Lower radiator hoses and the metal piece since mine has rusted out.
third my thermostat wire won't fit on the new temp gage I installed into the motor.
Any suggestions on any of these would be helpful. Pics are even better, for the power steering section.
