Keep in mind that the F-250 never came with an AOD, and it is a very weak transmission if you plan to do any towing.

You also have to swap out the frame towers for the engine mounts. The pass side is bolted on, so easy to do. Drivers side is riveted on with 5 rivets, so be prepared for lots of grinding, banging, and torching to get them off.
Where are you located? I would be interested in the 460/zf you are taking out if you happen to be somewhere close to where I live in NC or somewhere I may frequent.
The cross members look to be bolted on. So couldnt they just be switched? I live in vancouver so if you or anyone wants the 460/ZF combo 50 bucks or a case of beer gets em.
Yes or no to exchanging the cross member any ideas? Also, fuel pumps?

You could swap cross members since you have a donor. No need to swap the fuel pump(s). They are exactly the same for the 4.9/5.0/5.8 and 7.5L engines.

Then I bet the motor is actually 5.0 and not a 5.8. Know how to tell the difference between them?

Paul, you always play the spoiler card. Interested to see the response.

This is an odd thread if we find there are F250HD with a 5.8L and AOD.

Well given the age of the vehicle it is entirely probable the original motor is long gone and a well done 5.8 swap could look factory.

The crossmember I am referring to is the large one underneath the engine that the TTB suspension is attached to--that is what is different. It is both welded and riveted in. I changed one on a bronco, but you have to completely disassembly the whole truck from the firewall forward to do it. Here is a picture of the 460/7.3 crossmember next to the 300/302/351 crossmember. Note that the 460 crossmember in the pic still has the driver side 460 engine mount tower riveted to the back of it.

There is another option--you can put a remote oil filter kit on the engine and mount the filter somewhere else. Then all you have to do is grind the rivets on the drivers side engine mount tower on both trucks and swap the 302/351 mount onto your 460 truck. Being an 89, the engine harness will plug right in to the harness on the fender well, so you don't have to mess with any of the wiring attached to the truck--they made it simple starting in 89. You will have to swap the computers, but that is easy (in the drivers side kick panel). Fuel system is the same up to the filter. The feed line from there to the engine is different and the return line back to the switching valve is different, but you can swap all that with the engine.

That is a lot of rivets to remove. I started to tear up looking at it.
