A little change

Going to an original show next weekend all entrants must be 90% original, so took off the Torque thrusts for these. I kind of like the look. But it sure looks weird from behind with that narrow axle that is on these.

I always like the torque thrusts, but that does look good. When the show requires 90% original, is that 90% of every nut and bolt or does an original but modified engine still count as original?

Hmmm, White wall tires, hub caps, chrome exhaust tips, custom cab door handle plates on not custom cab, spotlight, exhaust pipe showing, ALL not original.

Hope you can get in.

Well John lets see. Spotlight original. Ordered, came in cab and dealer installed, even has fomoco logo on it although it is a Unity spotlight. Hubcaps, yea they are chrome but the truck came from the factory with the bottle cap caps, I still have them even though slightly dented. Want pictures?. Custom cab door handles on what is a factory ordered chrome delete and mono paint Custom cab, the chrome strip and 2 tone dash and white door panels are there. The motor is original to the truck and I won't say numbers matching because there is no such thing. If you really want to get technical the crank rods water pump heads valves tappets oil pan water pump are original to the truck. Yes the exhaust shows and yes the tips are chrome that is because it has headers on it which are not original. But if you read my post I said all entrants must be 90% original. If you would like to know how I know for absolute sure about how this truck came from the factory. It is because my father in law ordered this truck new in 1963 and my wife and I are second owners. There are very few 50 plus year old anything out there that are original from the factory. Yes restored to 100% factory original but not original with every part on it as it came from the factory. This truck made the show last year with torque thrust wheels on it and placed 3rd in truck class and took home the peoples choice award as well. So I think I will get in again this year

Original but modified engine is ok. It does not even have to be the original engine as long as it is what it came with. For instance a 57 Chevy can not have a 327 in it. There will be a 5 point deduction for my motor even though it is original due to the fact I have T bird valve covers a 4bbl carb and intake and headers. Next year if I get real desperate to win a trophy I can put the original carb intake and exhaust manifolds and the single exhaust system that exits behind the right rear tire. It has all been restored and sitting in the attic collecting dust. I am not to concerned about trophies anymore as I won 5 last year and this is my 1 and only restoration. I enjoy taking it to shows and talking to people about it, hearing their stories of the one they used to own and telling my stories.

I like the look 10x than with those newer wheels. Obviously the show defines originality in a vague way(looks old).

I like it. For me it's not as much fun if my custom touches aren't there but I can certainly see the challenge of keeping it original. I like the tbird valve covers, I have a true appreciation for period type customization.

Your truck is well over 90%, only things I see from photo that wouldn't be is the exhaust and chrome gas cap. Stainless steel hubcaps were optional as well as the spot light and whitewalls. Custom Cab door handles are correct on non deluxe tu tone paint '64 Custom Cabs. Hopefully the judges will be more knowledgeable than Mr. Wilker.

When I was 11, my father traded a '63 Fairlane on a new '65 Styleside short bed - mechanically different from yours but the bodies are nearly identical. Brings back memories.
