Lesson for the day

When you buy an old truck that's been setting 20+ years, don't forget to look in the clutch for the rest of your seat.

Words to live by! Now, care to elaborate a little on that little nugget of wisdom.

I decided to bang some new freeze plugs into the 59. Which turned out to be a wise choice because one of them was half gone and just the inch of crud apparently holding the coolant in. Had to remove the starter to get at one and notice a little fuzz on the bendix. So I pulled the dust cover and the whole thing was full of seat fuzz and mouse poo, especially inside the pressure plate. I had been running the engine so it was packed in pretty good. I had to loosen the pressure plate to get it all out, probably an hour of barring the engine over and blowing with air.
I doubt if it would have drove far with all that crap in there.

Oh, does it make a mess when momma mouse decides the clutch housing is the place to make a nest. Start vehicle, drive vehicle, wait a few days and notice the smell. You will find mouse pieces distributed along with various seat and insulation materials throughout the clutch housing.
Been there, had it happen a couple times.

I should have known! I battle those little vermin constantly. They haven't nested in my truck yet, but they sure like the air cleaner and engine on the lawn tractor. Don't forget to wear a mask when dealing with the nests. That Hanta (sp?) virus is nasty!
