Front bearing retainer oil seal

I just bought a new transmission front bearing retainer oil seal for my transmission '48-50 3 speed light duty..after prying my old oil seal out I'll be damn but I can't figure out which side of the seal goes into the retainer..sorry for the poor pictures but I tried identifying each side numbering each with a 1 and 2. If you can make sense of my pics can someone tell me which side goes face into the bearing retainer..I've tried looking for web site pics but can't find any that are relevant. Thanks.
