240 to 300

Question: I have a 240 engine; is making a 300 simply using a 300 crank and associated parts? Are there any mods needed, like clearance the block?

I believe the answer is yes, that putting the 300 crank in is no problem, but figured to ask the esteemed experts here.

And yes, I know there are more combinations of rods and pistons that can be put in, but don't mean to get into all that. I bought this engine cheap mainly for the head, but got to thinking that maybe I could just go ahead and make it a full buildup while I'm wrenching.

TIA!

Swap in a 300 crank, connecting rods and pistons. Both blocks have the same cylinder bores so it's a direct swap. Just don't mix rods and pistons between the two ( use 300 rods & pistons with 300 crank ) and you are good to go.

Got it, that's what I thought.

I know you can use 240 rods on a 300 crank if you use stroker pistons for a 331/347, but that's a whole 'nuther conversation!

Thanks for the reply.

Use a 300 vibration damper - the one with an extra sheave. And make sure the thrust journal on the crank matches the one in the block. Early ones were smaller OD.
