I took the opportunity to tour U-505... then I went to my dads hometown of Manitowoc Wis, (where 28 boats were built) and tour the U.S.S Cobia about 5 days apart...was amazed how the USS Cobia was roomier, and ready for the icing on the cake....they were doing a ham radio roll call from the USS Cobia and there was a person from pismo beach checking in as we were walking by the com.

Very Cool!

My trip back to Cali was delayed with a last minute cancellation at 1am. The flight was supposed to depart at 10pm. Had the opportunity to sleep a few hours on a cot at O'Hare. They ran outta blankets, but I got a small pillow and laid down next to a TV monitor that droned on and on about some advert. On the bright side it was a Coleman cot, but only 6 feet long , so I balled up and slept sporadically until 4am when security roused us and told us to get moving, they were picking up the cots. Luckily the AA lounge opens at 4am and I napped there until my 10am flight headed west.

Oh, the joys of flying... I have not been on a plane since the late 70's so I would not know. LOL

I've also been to the USS Cobia in Manitowoc.

My family owned a shipyard in Sturgeon Bay for 80 years. During WWII, built freighters for the Brits, sub chasers and frigates for the USN & USCG
