Scored !!! now I need some information

I found a guy with fenders for my 1946 1/2 ton, complete with inner fenders for $200. When I went to pick them up he had the frame, front and rear axles, 2 rims ( with flat tires), the cowl, hood and 1/2 of the bed as well. He threw it all in and trailered it to my house for the price of the gas. Score !!!!

Now where I need some information. I am stripping down the frame to clean and paint. How in the heck to I remove the rear springs ? I took out what looks to be a "keeper pin" and the hanger looks like it might open a little but it would need significant force to make that happen. I think I am missing something basic. Can anyone one tell me how to do this ?

Thanks
Bruce

This is where the bolt was removed. I cannot seem to get any farther in removing the shackle.

The part you removed is a keeper pin, there should be one at each connection point there, you should be able to tap out or push the larger pin after that keeper is removed.
The whole deal is very similar to a king pin, except the king pin is horizontal.

There should be a hole on the inside of the frame where you can insert a punch and tap out the pin, the pin usually has grease fitting on the opposite end.

I truly hope my babble makes sense.

Terrific !!. That is exactly the info I was looking for. I suspected as much but (using my brain for a change) I was hesitant to start pounding away until I was sure of the layout.

Thanks
