One Door Weatherstripping on, one to go

Tonight after procrastinating for several months I took one door off and put the new hollow core weatherstripping on. My wife helped steady the door until I could lift it and put it through the saw horses. I told her 17 years ago after Old Betsy's first paint job that I took the door off myself and since it was winter carried the door in the back door, through the kitchen, and down the cellar steps to my basement workshop. I then carried it back upstairs, out to the garage and put the doors on by myself. I told her I was much younger and stronger then and of course she agreed. I did obtain a few scratches and chips.

So not wanting to do that this time I enlisted her help. She helped guide the hinges into the door slots after much struggling. I only started at 9:00pm and finished at 10:30. She said tomorrow ask your friend Sam to help. He used to be a power lifter and called himself Dr. Steel in college!

The second door should go easier of course as well as putting the adhesive on the door and weatherstripping.

Why remove the door to replace the weatherstrip?

A floor jack works very well to support a door while it is attached and aligned.

We did ours **** about face. We painted the truck, put the doors on, aligned them, then my wife fitted the hollow door rubbers on her own, using the 3m adhesive stuff!

Got the drivers side door weatherstripping on today. Last night my wife and I used a 5 gallon bucket upside down with a couple of full 1" boards and a towel. Today I used the same bucket for the drivers side but I only a 1" (3/4") board and a towel..... does my truck sit uneven?

Weatherstripping went on well, I got the door on the hinges by myself easily but this door needed alot of adjustment. So I called two friends to come help hold the door while I loosened and tightened the bolts.

I recently put weatherstripping on... now I have to SLAM the doors to get them to latch... is that a hinge adjustment or is there a way to adjust the latch? If so is it the door piece or the frame piece that I should 'mess' with?

THANKS

The hinges on the door are adjustable. And I think where the hinge bolts to the cab is adjustable. And the striker plate is adjustable.

I just put hollow core weatherstripping on my doors. A friend and I had them pretty well adjusted before he painted. But after putting the weatherstripping on the doors did not want to latch. I put the weatherstripping on with the doors hung; because I thought they were pretty well aligned. If I had it to do over I would take the doors off.

So I did some reading in the Service Manual and they suggested making shims for where the hinge bolts to the pillar out of the shims used for the door striker; knew I kept those old striker shims for a reason. My passenger door is a transplant; that whole side had extensive damage. I'm now at about 5/32nd on the front but as far off as 1/4 on the rear (latch side of the door). Haven't even started measuring the driver's door.

I was just watching a video on this and they said to adjust the doors. Then in 3-4 weeks you should be able to place the back where they first were. It takes this amount of time for the seal to break in.
