Remote start issues

So just recently my remote start quit working. It's worked fine for the last two years. Now after I hit the buttons the truck just honks. I tried going through the setup on the dash and turning it off and back on. Still just honks at me.

There is no info in your post but assume it is the 2013 F250. How are your truck batteries? I know that when the truck batteries were weak in my 2015 from sitting, all the remote start would do is blink the lights and honk. Check your truck batteries. If the "light" on the top of each the battery is not green, you may need to have your batteries isolated and then load tested.

The following is from the 2015 Owner's Manual

Remote Start (If Equipped)

WARNING

To avoid exhaust fumes, do not use remote start if your vehicle is parked indoors or areas that are not well ventilated.

Note: Do not use remote start if your vehicle is low on fuel.

The remote start button is on the transmitter. This feature allows you to start your vehicle from outside the vehicle. The transmitter has an extended operating range.

Vehicles with automatic climate control can be set to operate when you remote start the vehicle. See Climate Control (page 105). A manual climate control system will run at the setting it was set to when you switch the vehicle off. Many states and provinces have restrictions for the use of remote start. Check your local and state or provincial laws for specific requirements regarding remote start systems.

The remote start system will not work if:

• the ignition is on
• the alarm system is triggered
• you disable the feature
• the hood is open
• the transmission is not in P
the vehicle battery voltage is too low
• the service engine soon indicator is on.

Or that little sensor on the hood latch is mis-aligned. #4 on Larry's list.

Just FYI, your remote start is working fine.

If at any time the factory remote start does not actually start the vehicle and you end up with a horn honk instead, it's because there's something else wrong with the truck. The remote start is doing exactly what it's supposed to, a system check for errors before forcing a start. That's why it's working properly.

You confirmed this with the fact that the CEL is illuminated. There is another issue that requires attention.

X2.

If there is a check engine light illuminated, or a code in recent history that has not cleared (multiple restarts without a code will sometimes turn off the engine light), remote start will honk rather than start.

No way around that until the code is cleared
