'92 F-150 New Owner Requesting Common Issues To Inspect

Hello Gents,
I am the proud new owner of my first truck a 1992 F-150 XLT with the 5.8L engine. I bought it from an older coworker who used it as a daily driver. It's very clean and has about 120k miles.
Last night my shifter tube broke and apparently this is common. This led me to question your experience to find other items that I should expect and see if I need to replace. The steering is pretty spongy and I am looking at changing old warn parts there, but I would love to have a list or posts about other very common parts failures or suggested replacement items that I could proactively inspect and replace.

If there is a thread about this already, I'm sorry for reposting, please point me in that direction.

Lines, hoses, filters, o2 sensor, plugs, wires, dist cap, brakes, tires. Stuff like that. Then things as they break.

Rear spring hangers are known to rust out completely. The radius arm bushings on the front are way passed their expected life expectancy. That contributes to your loose steering.

Fan clutch, thermostat.

rla2005, do the 5.8 computers have the same capacitors in them?

Exactly the same as any other PCM for the entire gas engine range. The 'secret recipe" is the programming inside the chip.

Okay then, read my thread about computer capacitor issues. May want to check yours and get the caps swapped out before they leak/blow up and cause more damage to the computer. They have a life span and yours are past it.
