cat deac coolant

hey guys....I am going to do the coolant flush on mine and got everything ready. Picked up my coolant after work tonite at the caterpillar dealer, just asked for four gallons of elc and the guy put em in a box. I didn't look at them till I got home and they are deac gallons. can these be used or do I need to go all the way back out there tomorrow and exchange them?

My fault for not trusting him I know

The DEAC (Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant) isn't the preferred coolant. It's a magenta color, contains silicates and is intended for use with SCA's (Supplimental Coolant Addatives).

What you're looking for is CAT part number 238-8647 1 gallon CAT ELC concentrate. Many dealers don't stock it as they usually use the premix. You need the concentrate to get the mix right in your truck. It's a strawberry red color, contains no silicates, and is an extended life coolant.

If you have trouble getting it locally, the important part is the EC-1 rating. Other brands of similar coolant reference this specification on the bottle.

And your flushing with distilled water, do not use tap water. If your doing a chemical flush, be ready to replace your oil cooler.

Yes Vc9 chem, I use tap ( no well water) on my first through 4 flushes pull the block plugs ( carful very hot) then use distilled to flush the tap water out, takes a while but at least you know it's not just a dump and fill .
