Lost fuel pressure @ HFCM

Backstory:
So I was driving along the past two days and when I would give it sudden gas then let off quickly my alarm for fuel pressure would go off. Such as getting up to speed from a stoplight quickly maybe 50-60% throttle. I had to pull over yesterday and cycled the key a few times worked fine, today same thing happened and cycled the key. 1/4 mile down the road I cycled the pedal and it happened again and no dice with cycling the key or anything. pulled the 2nd filter out and found this with an oring in there. Rancor filter too, so I guess it can happen to anyone.

Solution:That wasn't the problem though and after a bunch of texts and no go I drained the water thingy, still no go. Took the whole filter out of the HFCM and inspected it with nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe, maybe a small speck of black plasticy stuff on the end between the tines but I don't know if that happened during removal or not. Put it back in and fired right up to 62.5 PSI. I usually only get 60 at idle and 58 cruising.

What would cause sudden drop like this? Is the HFCM also the fuel pump, if so the pump was replaced last year/30K miles. Fuel is the newest thing,
I filled up Saturday, had 8 gallons left in the tank and have 54miles on the clock since. I replaced the fuel filters about two weeks ago with Rancor then did Houston to LA and back with zero issues. Oil was changed about 1K miles ago with Rancor and Motocraft 10-30.

Looking at the filter comparison photo in this thread I can see the oring goes between the filter and the piece that fell out.

One less thing to worry over.

Did you have a loss in fuel pressure before or after getting fuel? There is a check valve on the fuel pick-up in the tank that is known to come off causing loss of fuel to the pump, this happens around 1/4 tank. The remedy is to not let the tank go below 1/4 or drop the tank and replace the fuel pick-up/sender.
