1991 460 on propane, sitting on the side of the road.....

Sooooo.... on my way to work, my truck just up and died on me in the middle of the road. I hardly made it more that 2kms. Starting has always been a chore for this truck being on lpg, but I don't get why it just died in the middle of the road. For as long as I've had it, then the only thing shutting it down is the key. I have about 3/4 of a tank of propane so I've ruled that out. Before I got a ride, I tried cranking again, I cranked for about 5 seconds and it ran for 1 then died again, and never ran after that. Any help would be appreciated

Forgot to mention that it has an impco E series vaporizer and an impco 300A mixer.

My guess would be PIP sensor. Does the CEL turn off when the engine starts to crank or does it stay on?

Ah. Here we go..... vacuum actuated fuel shutoff.... vacuum line came off of the tree below the mixer. CEL goes off while cranking but I got it running now haha. Scared myself, I'm taking it up country for a while. Don't want it to die again

The CEL Should go off while cranking, that means your PIP sensor is working.

For future mishaps, what is the PIP sensor, what does it do and where is it located?

I'm not a Gasser man, but I believe the sensor is in the distributor and it sends the fire signal to the computer.
Like the old school small Coil to Distributor wire.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong and we'll both learn something ...

-Enjoy

Join the club, my friend. Though the only gasser I know most of would be the 460s/429s. There's that then there's 7.3s.

Yes the PIP sensor is located on the stater inside the distributor.
It serves the same purpose and replaces the old points or the old pick-up coil did that is no longer used.
It sends information to the ICM and the PCM Computer.

PIP: Profile Ignition Pickup, Provides crankshaft or camshaft position information for ignition synchronization.
ICM: Ignition Control Module.
PCM: Powertrain Control Module.
