Exclamation 6 or 7 Quarts?

Ok guys since I've had my Ex (V-10) I've been putting in 6 Quarts of oil every oil change.

Well I'm at the FORD DEALER now getting my oil changed and now they're telling me it takes 7 Quarts!??

And this is the same dealer that I've been bringing the truck to for months.

And yes I check the dipstick after a 6 quart oil change and it always reads FULL!

So how much are you guys using?

If I'm not mistaken I read somewhere on here that it takes 6.

Just did my oil yesterday and I looked it up in the ford owners manual and it states 6 quarts when you do the filter as well for the 6.8 liter V10. Not sure where your dealer is getting their info from, but it's not from the manual.

Mine is the V10 and that is what I put in.

It even states that if you put more than that in it could damage your engine and would need a "service professional" to remove some of the oil. It then states that if the oil is anywhere within the min and max level on the dip stick DO NOT ADD OIL. Which I think is weird as I try to run it at the max.

I've always put 7 quarts in. Yes the Manual shows 6, but when I fill mine to the full mark it takes 6.7qts. I just put all 7 in. That 1/4 qt will do no damage, even half a qt is safe. A full qt over can be a problem.

The difference between the "Low" and "Full" marks on most dipsticks is one quart.

I've seen many 5 quart engines running on less than 2 quarts of oil. (Without low oil pressure indications)

On the flipside, I've watched newbies at shops fill engines with oil... And by fill, I mean FILL them with oil.

One or two full quarts up or down shouldn't hurt a thing.

It's been awhile for me, but I'd bet on 6 quarts unless you're not using a funnel

I've always done about 6.5 quarts. It's written on the header panel from the previous owner so I always stuck with that, there about.

Approximately 7 qts. Only had 150K on it when I traded it and I bought it new

6.5Q is what my wife's Mazda MPV (Ford Duratec 3.0 V6) takes.

A heavier duty engine with over double the displacement has gotta take a little more than that.

6 quarts takes mine to the top of full mark and what the books call for.
