1989 f250 dually

I have an 89 f250 4x4 regular cab that has a dually bed on it. I was wondering if it came from the factory like that or if someone added the dually rear end and bed? I have not been able to fine another like it.

Never seen any truck with the DRW option that wasn't a 1-ton.

If it's a 3/4 ton truck, then somebody swapped the dually bed on later. Does it have the dually axle too? It would've been a fairly simple swap, as the frame is the same between the 250 and 350.

It does have the dually rear axle, both the front and rear wheels are eight lug. I guess I need to go look for an id tag on them, my front pinion or gear is stripped and I didn't figure I could go by the tag on the door panel.

No I was curious if the wheels are the same, not the lug pattern ...
If it has Dually wheels on the front.

It has regular wheels on the front. Does that mean that the front still had the 3.55 gears and the rear had 4.10 and that may be why the front is stripped out now?

It started life as a F250 single wheel(since they NEVER made f250s in dual)

You could of gotten a f250 in either 3.55 or 4.10

The tag in the door says it came with 3.55 (code 39), but I wonder if whoever swapped for the dually may not have changed the front gears and that may be why the front end is stripped out now. I could not find an id tag on the front. I guess I will have to take it apart to see what is in it.

could be.did you verify the rear sports 4.10? im using a '89 pickup drw axle that has 3.55 gearing to match my axle code 39 (3.55)
i couldn't find 3.55 in the 93+ pickup drw axles.is why i used a first gen/short yoke.

Yes the rear has the tag on it still, it is a ten inch with 4 10 limited slip. What options do I have for my front end? Would it better to rebuild mine, or maybe find a good straight axle to put in it?

Brad once informed me that the front d50 carrier swaps right out just like a ford 9" rear.pull the axles, swap the whole setup center sections and slide your axles back in.so that's the easiest and most affordable by far.

you could go with a d60 swap but it's overkill if you don't race off road, want a lift and run big tires.
the other bad thing about the d60 is,that it sits higher,so you need to lift the rear up too.this isn't what you want if you load your bed with heavy items by hand.

if you've got a spare grand itching in your pocket (id recommend investing it instead) and you just gotta have a d60,then now's the time i suppose.
you need the front springs, new u-bolts,the axle itself, the rear f350 4wd spring block and new u-bolts for the rear.
is the front drive shaft a different length too? probably.if so,you'll need that.
oh.pitman arm is different too.swap that for increased turning radius.then what? you gunna run the old ball joints and u-joints in the used axle? i doubt it.so that grand turns into 1500 before your done.then what did you really gain? did you spend the coin for something you really can make use of or was it really just poor spending? just because it's "better" than the tbb, doesn't mean the ttb isn't more than good enough for most of what most of us will ever do.

this is why i'll never swap in a d60 front axle in mine.if this helps any, cool.

I reckon it is a 10.25, sorry I wasn't more specific. It has the twelve bolt cover. Thanks for the info guys. I don't think I would do a d60 swap just based on the price of the axle, I couldn't justify it. I guess I am looking a fixing mine.
