Brake shoe size 1969 F100

Hey guys. I am building a '56 F100 and have a rear end from a '69 F100 on it. There weren't any shoes or hardware on it when I got it, so I was wondering if you could help me decide if I got the right shoes from Napa. It was a while ago, but I remember the parts man saying that there were multiple sizes when he gave me what he assumed was the right size.

I have the shoe sitting on its side and resting on the little shoulder at the bottom of the drum. What were the width differences? Does this appear to be the right size shoe?

Thanks!

Did you take that drum with you when you bought the shoes?
As it looks like the narrow about 3/8" of an inch.

Jeff or Bill can answer your question about side.

Ford used the same shoes for rear axles for quite a while, will have 55 somewhere in the part # across different manufacturers, Wagner, Centric, etc

edit: Rockauto shows a few shoes for 69 F100, all have a 263 in the part #, see if your shoes correspond with any listed.

In the Bumpside F100s, in '67 the drums measured 11" x 2" in the front and 11" x 1-3/4" in the rear.

From '68-'72, F100 front drums were 11" x 3" and the rear drums were 11" x 2-1/4".

Thanks everyone for the input. The shoes I have are 2 1/4" wide. If I measure the entire surface are on the inside of the drum, it's 2 3/4".

I am going to have the drums turned before putting it on the road. I just didn't know how much of that inside surface area the shoe is supposed to cover. I need to pull the rear drum off of my '65 F100 and compare! Why am I so lazy?!

I don't think it is lazy. There are times that I am doing things, and asking these guys is faster, but it also gets it right.

When I was redoing my 4x4 wheel hubs, I redid them several times, putting them back exactly like the pictures that I took when I removed them. The 4x4 would not engage, so I removed everything to check for installation errors many times. Finally I asked here, and turned out the previous owner had put it together wrong so I was replicating his error.

And besides, your thread becomes a searchable thread for the next guy.

I'll say it, 2X Ultraranger. Steve is Our resident Ford Brakes Expert. He is, of course, exactly right.

I'm sorry, I gave you the info for a F250. Not for a F100, like you asked for.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. While I have a good deal of experience with Ford brake systems, I don't know that that makes me an expert on the subject.
