wifi routers

Hi,
I'm looking for a router -- only because mine has been occasionally dropping out lately. Not real often, but when it does I have to repower the router and the DSL modem.

It's a Belkin N450 -- and otherwise it's fine. But when I look now, the reviews are pretty horrible. So, I'm looking for a backup/replacement.

Here's the deal, I have 2 to 3 computers running, but not doing a lot. I don't game and I don't watch a lot of vids. I do use spotify, and we have a couple of Kindles.

Just wondering if anybody has had good experiences with a relatively low cost unit ( under $50). Given my usage and the fact that I'm on DSL, it doesn't have to be great, but it should have fair range -- one of my computes is in the basement.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,

hj

Anything from TP Link will be the best bang for the buck you can find for home networks.

I've used their products for years with great results.

If you want a good router for around $50 price get the Linksys/Cisco N600/E2500
It is a dual band router..

If you want a little cheaper with single band they have the linksys N300/E900P

I have installed them for a few customers with no problems

I got a wifi modem/router in one from my cable company. Was supposed to be $50 and I also asked them to upgrade my service. I was never billed for the unit and also my bills did not go up. Don't think my service was upgraded but I will not complain as the modem/router works great and I don't mind keeping my extra $50!

If you have to reboot the DSL modem it's more likely an DSL problem then the router. I had the same issue with the DSL modem before I ditched it, throwing it in the freezer for 15-20 min before I used it in the evenings significantly helped the cutting out.

Before throwing money at a new router, the next time it cuts out try plugging a computer directly into the DSL. If it has an Internet connection it's the router, if there is no Internet it's probably the DSL modem.
