96 5.8 roller Cam Pitted

I tore down a 96 5.8 for rebuild and was intending to reuse cam but the first four lobes are pitted just like a flat tappet will do. My question is is there anything I should look for to correct that would cause this or is it normal. This is my first roller cam project so I am roller ignorant. Appreciate any help

Right here on FTE.

It's easy and the images remain versus getting broken links when the hosting site decides to change, something they do frequently!

Simple Pictures & Albums - Howto
  1. Select: UserCP
  2. Select: Pictures & Albums
  3. Select: Create Album
  4. Edit: Title (Where it says "Enter Album Title...")
  5. Select: Upload
    1. OS Dependant browse steps ... ... ...
  6. Select: Save
  7. Click on the image
  8. Select: Share
  9. Copy & Paste BB Code to your post.

Step 5 can be done by dragging and dropping the file on the page!

-Enjoy

Looks like maybe there was an oil contamination issue, and there was a lot of grit being crushed into the cam lobes.

I'd replace the cam and lifters honestly.

I am replacing them no questions asked....my question is why just the first four lobes....couldn't be something in oil as that would affect all the lobes....I thought maybe there was a oiling problem I needed to know about on the 351. Thanks

If there were some grit or something someone got into the engine, say during an oil change, it wouldn't necessarily go to every lobe.
