How does the vehicle feel when you hit a decent size bump in the road? (Not a hole, more of a whoop in the road). Does it feel like you're in a boat? Almost spongey?

Pulled camper last night. Empty is 6k, loaded 9k. I put water in once at camp grounds, so I'm somewhere in between.

Nubs are not locked.

When I hit a woop in the road, the truck comes out pushing me other than straight.
I fell like I always have to micro manage the wheel to keep me straight in the lane. I need more effort when towing. If I let go of the wheel, it drives straight, meaning alignment feel true.
I ran into a guy who has the year truck and he was told these trucks are well known for having there gear box to tight and I'm over correcting when it drifts. My mechanic has a friend that has one and he said to fix it, v code in front, x in back. So far I've been told those are both front springs.
My mechanic does not specialize in diesels. But I had him drive it and he said it feels fine, but I don't like the drifting and my gut is telling me something is not right.
Is there a difference in alignment shops for diesels?

Thanks for all your help.

It is not uncommon for these trucks to wander, it could be a combination of things and you definitely don't want to start throwing money at things that are not "broken", but the leaf springs are these trucks were extremely underrated from factory. You are correct, the V and X code leaf springs are both front spring options so that isn't going to help you all that much.

If you come to find out it is the leaf springs get in contact with me and I will figure out what may be the best setup for your truck. We have had plenty of customers with the wandering trucks (even after taking care of the front end parts) and after putting on our leaf springs they feel a world of difference, it really helps tie everything together.

First have your tie rod ends, power steering box, ball joints, and panhard bar inspected. Make sure the mechanic jacks each front wheel off the ground to properly inspect.
After that, I'd address the front springs. In the picture you can see the missing bump stop. If it was there it would be bottomed out anyways. Your front springs are tired and need replacing. By design, the sagging of the front end throws off the caster so you lose the stability. Kinda like a shopping cart with a bent front wheel.
If I were you I'd also search or post this on the Excursion forum. Those guys know the part #'s for replacement springs for a great setup. It's been awhile but I did the spring swap on a v10 Ex and the customer was extremely pleased.
You're also low in the rear with the trailer hooked up. I'd suggest load bars for the hitch or airbags to keep it level.
Nice looking Ex, BTW.

might be time for shocks, and airbags out back. I get the trailer push a little when i hit a decent size bump on he hwy when towing.

your stabilizer bars should be parellel to your trailer frame. it looks like you have them cranked up a bit to much also.

I'll start by saying I was a mechanic for several years in my 20s, and I do a lot of my own wrenching. I am new to Fords and Powerstrokes. I have a F-250 CCSB, and I pull 7k lbs. of horses and trailer just about every weekend. My truck is bone stock, except it has air bags on the rear axle. I barely feel the trailer behind me. Several people have recommended that you take your Ex to a good alignment shop. Swapping out parts is just going to cost you a small fortune. You need to diagnose the problem real and fix it. Hoping you find it by replacing parts is usually going to cost you more in the long run. If it were me, and my truck was wandering, I wouldn't pull the trailer again until the problem is fixed. Best of luck to you.

I appreciate your offer. I am going to move this thread over to King of Excursions and see if others are having the same problem. I'll let you know what happens.
