OK. Henry is just too much to stop as is. In my search for power brakes, I have seen kits with front disc conversions and basic power brake boosters with master cylinder for under cab mounting in the original location.

So what have you folks used and what would you recommend for Henry?

Is there a PB booster that mounts on the firewall? The brake pedal on the floor is awfully tight to the column and gas pedal.

Thanks.

Later!

Yep, quite a few of them out there. Here are a few different flavors from Mid-Fifty:

1948-52 Ford F-100 Pre-valved Firewall Mount Brake Booster Kit, Drum Front, Drum Rear 4852

1948-52 Ford F-100 Pre-valved Firewall Mount Brake Booster Kit, Disc Front & Drum Rear 4852

And from Performance Online:

And from Sacramento Vintage Ford (you'll need to scroll through the page, their website isn't the best):

Is Henry a stock setup? Your description of the pedal spacing doesn't track with OEM equipment.

Yes, he is stock in the cab area. The brake pedal is right next to the gas pedal which makes it very difficult to apply because of the proximity to the gas pedal.

And thanks Jak. This is the stuff I was looking for. I knew that someone had to make a firewall kit designed to fit Henry. The disc brake kits that are out there are expensive and put the MS and booster in the stock location which I do not like. Your links will allow me to get the disc brake conversion without the booster.

We are on the way now guys!

No wonder we haven't had any Bigfoot sightings around here lately, he's moved to New Jersey!

Just kidding, Ed. I don't see how you have a problem though. My accelerator pedal is very close to the floor. The brake pedal sits high up off the floor, no way to press both at the same time unless you are low on brake fluid, which would make stopping difficult. Even with my size 12s I don't have an issue when I have to pump them up.

I used a CPP kit for an F1 on my F2.

I also added disk brakes from Speedway to the front: (1948-1956 Ford Half Ton Deluxe Disc Brake Kit, 5 x 5-1/2 Inch - Free Shipping @ Speedway Motors). You will need to make that decision before you buy the master cylinder because drum/drum is different from disc/drum.

Installing the booster under the floor means that you can retain the stock pedals and won't have to reinforce the firewall like you will with hanging pedals.

Yeah, something is not right, Mr Ed. When the brake system is right, the brake pedal should be several inches above the accelerator and should depress only an inch when the brakes are adjusted correctly.

Sorry if I led you to believe the brake pedal was even with the gas pedal. It isn't. But I do not have strength enough in my knees to push the pedal enough to stop the truck. In another thread I said that I am changing the front out to a Mustang II IFS with power R&P and disc brakes. I ordered it and a firewall mounted PB booster and MC that Jak linked to in his response. I got it from POL which had the best price. It looks like they either make them or are the master distributor because the other sites have the same unit right down to the model number but at $200.00 more that POL.

Thanks again.

Later!
