DEF jug rubber air inlet

I was filling my DEF tank (2015 Super Duty 6.7) with 2.5 gal jug a few weeks ago and while I was filling it, the small black rubber air inlet on the container that allows air into the container while filling my truck got sucked into the container and then straight down into my DEF tank before I had a chance to stop the flow. Does anyone know if this will cause me any problems?....it hasn't yet. Is there a screen in the DEF fill hose to catch foreign objects like is in the gas/diesel fill hoses?

I don't remember seeing a little rubber grommet on a jug for air. the Ford filler nozzle I have has a straw in it for the air exchange. What brand of DEF were you using?

As far as a problem... Hmmm... Good question for a tech that has had to replace a tank. I know the little piece of paper on the cap of an additive bottle is enough to block the pickup for fuel. So it's possible even with the screen that it could restrict the DEF enough to cause an issue IF it ended up in the wrong spot. Of course you don't use DEF all the time either.

That little black straw is often found on the peak and other def jugs. It's supposed to allow the jug to vent when pouring. I can see how it could get sucked into the jug of it was blocked or wasn't seated right.

I would bet you are okay but I'd call the def company and give them hell about it. Maybe they'll pay for the retrieval?

Why toss the DEF? The black piece shouldn't degrade in DEF if it was meant to be in the bottle that contained DEF?
