Question How can i tell if i have a sohc or ohv?
what are the engine codes for the ohv or sohc for a 97 Ranger w/ 4.0 in it

8th digit in VIN code X=OHV E=SOHC

Easy. If you have a Ranger, and it's older than a 2001 model, it has OHV. 2001 - up have SOHC.

My SOHC is covered saying 4.0 SOHC
