Is this a good truck to buy?

Hi. I am looking at a 2000 ford f250. The guy selling it is selling it for $2600 and it has 213k miles on it. I am not familiar with fords so i want someone to tell me if it is even worth buying. Ive heard different things from people. SOme people say that that mileage is too high and some people say that it is average for a truck. Other people tell me not to get it because its a ford and fords dont last that long after they hit 200k. If someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks!

Here is the truck here:https://providence.craigslist.org/cto/5608395225.html

Unless I went and looked at it in person I'd pass. If you want to sell a veh. you at least pull it out in the sun and take pics from a few different angles. Looks to me like he could be hiding something but who knows. $2600 is awful cheap and he doesnt say it's a diesel unless I missed something......be careful!!!!

At 200k it doesn't matter brand. Any of them can be a bucket of worms, its all about how well it was taken care of. My luck with used stuff these days is that I end up fixing so much that any money I thought I saved is long gone.

Fender badges say V8, so that will be a 5.4 unless someone has changed it.
I have to wonder what is getting done to it that it needs cardboard under it? Or what is it leaking?
Seems like a good price, would be worth a look.

I'll tell you what those flares are hiding rusty rotten rear fenders. No rust in the northeast in 200k miles HA.

X2. Mechanically, there is normal wear and tear. Some things may need addressed, but it will eventually nickel and dime you until you've put the cost of the truck in repairs. However, the rust will take you to the poor house. Body work isn't cheap. If that bed is as rusted as I'd guess it is, your looking at $2k + to get a non-rusted replacement without even matching the paint.

Hold off for one that has lower miles. I am not sure what you price point is, but you should be able to find a nice well cared for truck for $5-10k with 100k on the odometer.

I wouldn't 5.4 usually need a tune up around this time and the spark plugs are known to break off very expensive thing to do on that truck believe it or not. And the 5.4 usually falls downhill fast once it starts acting up

2000 5.4 has the short threads, risk of spitting a plug and stripping threads more so than breaking one off.

There were 2 different problems. 99-02 5.4 and I think 99-03 6.8 have shallow plug holes with only 4 threads to engage the plug. If not torqued properly, the engine would eject the whole plug. They resolved this by switch to a head design with 8 threads. I have a late 02 truck (March 2002 build date), but I have not yet looked to see which version I have.

In 05, they switched to a 5.4 with a 3V head instead of a 2V. these had bad spark plugs that would actually break in half when you tried to remove them. I believe this lasted until 07 or 08.

I believe the 5.4 shallow thread problem went to early '03. My '03 definetly has the shorter threads.

I've extracted a couple of plugs out of my friends '06 5.4 with the lisle tool and besides being stressful it was really no big deal for us to do. My friend being the son of the owner of a local wrecker who's dad(referred to as the wizard lol) taught us to wrench starting nearly 30 years ago. So ymmv. We basically proceed full steam ahead on the firm belief that anything we wreck......can be fixed! Lol

Where I live, if I saw that truck for sale for that money, and it ran good, I would buy it even if I didn't need it. I have a buddy that just bought a 1997 f150 with 150K miles from a "Your credit suck so buy here" dealer and paid $6800 for it.

I could sell that truck running for almost 5K here.

They changed from the 2 piece to the one piece plugs in mid 08 in the super duties with 3v gas motors. The replacement plugs are now one piece for the earlier 3v's that came with 2 piece plugs. Not that that matters for the op if anything he will have the plug spitting problem if he buys that truck.
