Bummer ... Save your money, don't be buying piddly little parts!

I see a head coming off in that trucks near future, Intake for certain! I have seen many lifters come apart and or stick so you might get lucky.

The more you run it, the more likely you'll be pulling a head!

Otherwise it sounds really solid!

I don't believe in this crap, but I have heard of it being successful on freeing stuck lifters!
Try some engine cleaner additive, like Marvel Mystery Oil or Seafoam Engine Cleaner.
There are those that swear by Marvel Mystery Oil as an engine oil additive.

All I've ever seen them do is ruin seals!

I suspect though, you'll still be tearing into it!

-Enjoy

Can I just pour the SeaFoam down the oil fill plug, or is there some other method to this madness?

Someone said they poured it straight down their intake...how about no. I don't want to waste a perfectly good pair of jeans when the thing runs away, aha.

Some do pour it SLOWLY in the intake, this breaks up carbon and has been said to unstick stuck rings!

Your issue is in the Valve train, Thus you want it in the motor oil.

As I said, I personally don't believe in this hocus pocus ... I also believe it ruins seals!

If the motor needs a rebuild in the future, or to pull the heads off, why not give it a try? Haha.

I'm thinking I'll get a valve job done. Am I looking at > $1000 to have the valve train redone with the heads pulled?

You do not need a rebuild, As I've said that motor sounds solid!
Just some possible head work, check lifters on the way to pull the head off that has the failing valve, hopefully it'll be a lifter. On that motor I personally would only fix the failed side, though I wouldn't argue about doing them both if it can be afforded!

To many variables, for I would only fix the broken!

First things first ... A Compression check!

To find out what cylinder it is you can crack each injector line one at a time at the injector while it's idling, this is just like pulling a spark wire on a gas motor, it's kills that cylinder ... Good cylinders will make the engine run rougher, bad cylinders will make little or no change to how it runs!

-Enjoy

I'm assuming none of this is a job for a novice, and I should definitely take it to a shop?

That would depend on the location one has, the tools one has!

The collective here at FTE could walk a novice through it, it would take time and patients!

Not to mention those heads are heavy and hard to pull by hand, Many do it though!
I cannot!

I recommend taking it to a shop.

I will take it to a shop then! I'm just a college student living in a dorm room working out of the parking lot with a bunch of hand tools, haha.

By the way, how are you so knowledgeable about these trucks?

Just one of them things, I started fixing stuff at a very early age and have been doing so for just at 50 years ...

I got suspended in 2nd grade for handing the teacher a saturated condenser ... She asked me to give it to her, So I did!

In 5th grade my teacher couldn't get me to focus, He recommended me for special ed, That special ed teacher (Bless his soul) developed an Automotive Based curriculum, school became a breeze until I got interested in Girls, Drugs and Fast cars, then I had to pay for my addictions ... Girls are expensive ya know, the others I could grow or build!

I suspect other then genes, it helped that I was raised on a self sustenance ranch, If you wanted something done you had to do it yourself as there was no one within many miles!

-Enjoy
