6.0 turbo and head

I want to do some tinkering on my truck. What's the stock 55mm turbo capable of safely without putting head studs into it. I don't want to be doing head gaskets any time soon. I've got a torn CAC boot and I'm losing serious boost. I'm maxing out at 21 lbs. Any recommendations for this? I've seen metal CAC boots but I have not messed with an intercooled engine.....ever. I've done non intercooled engines do any advice would be great.

You should be making 28psi or so. Replace the torn CAC boot.

Also. I'm getting a LOT of turbo lag. Takes about 5 seconds to really spool up.

So besides the torn cac boot. Is anything else gonna cause me to lose 7psi? The tear is a small one. Maybe 1/2 inch long.

You could have a sticky turbo, leaks in the up pipes or a combo of the two as well.

Besides ripping apart the engine. What else can I do to clean up a sticky turbo?

Pull the turbo and take it apart. Clean up the unison ring, vanes, center section and put it back together.

It doesn't take long. It's quick if the v band clamps have been turned the right way.

Pulling the alternator makes it easier to get the turbo out but it isn't necessary.

What's the turn around time. I can not afford for it to be down for more than a few hours. It's my SD and I drive bout 3k miles/month.
