EGR causing Misfire/Rough Idle?
Hey guys,
Some of you might remember my previous post about how when I was replacing my 1995 I6's spark plugs, I tried to move the green plastic EGR vacuum line out of the way and it snapped like a dry twig. I was told by some others to just plug the bottom end for the mean time until I can get it fixed.
Well I plugged it off the best I could and ever since its been rough at idle, kinda like it's misfireing. Could this be because the EGR is not functional? I'd like to get it fixed anyway, as obviously the EGR keeps the engine cool, and with the 90+ degree weather lately, the gauge says the engine gets pretty hot when sitting in traffic. It's still in the normal range but I'd rather not put excessive wear on it.
So should I just go to the junk yard and try to pry off another flimsy plastic line or should I replace it with some sort of rubber line?
Thanks guys!

Can you splice in some rubber fuel line? If you look close you'll see where I did this in three places. The easiest one to see is in the upper left corner of the picture. This one was snapped when I bought the truck. If you look next to the red hoses in the center of the pic you'll see that the white and the black hoses are spliced. These two snapped when I changed plug wires.

Thanks for the reply wheelman, I'm sorry if I'm not understanding what you're saying but I don't beleive I need to splice in any rubber lines. The EGR line that I snapped is only about 6" or so long if I remember right. I still have the factory rubber fittings that the line went in to. my plan of attack would be to just find a rubber line that fits the fittings and plug it in. Would this not work for some reason?

thanks guys, I got a peice of rubber tubing on there that seems thick enough to withstand vacuum. So I believe my EGR is now functional again and the CEL no longer turns on so that's good. It still has an uneven idle though, anyone have an idea what else could be causing it? I recently replaced plugs/wires/cap/rotor so we also set the ingnition timing a few degrees BTDC, this timing job might be questionable though as the marks are very worn. I know on some engines that some plug wires shouldn't be touching each other, does anyone know what these are on the 300 I6?
