56 F100 Kick Panels

What have you guys done in regards to kick panels? Buy them or make them? I see some for sale (Macs) for $25. \a pair or Mid Fifty for $89 a pair, look very similar ABS vs Panel Board. Anyone make their own? I was looking at it last night and not sure how I make the panel clear the body mount bracket it sort of sticks out a bit. So I'm wondering, if I am going to upholster the kick panels, does it really matter whether they are ABS or Panel Board (which would be what I would make them from if I was doing it. I looked at a bunch of other posts from the past about this and someone out there may even have a template or the dimension of the kick panel.

Sorry I don't have first hand experience making custom kick panels. I've only used the cardboard original ones. But I would think if I was building a resto mod Iffy I'd need to figure out if I was adding speakers in them. Not sure if the originals would tolerate speakers. Mine didn't seem to get a lot of scuffing from my big ole number 12s so I could see upolstry on my next set.

kick panels

I got tired of warping "cardboard" panels and speakers that were too heavy for the panels and warped them even further.

I used a good kick board panel as a template and cut a 1/8" panel that I purchased from Ebay. I used my rotozip to cut which was a pita because it rewelds itself- from the cutting heat. It took a couple times but the panels look just fine- textured side showing.

I made my own for the panel, I used 3/16'' mahogany plywood and built up the edge by the door post to clear the cab mount leg and used Velcro to hold them in place .

Heres a thread I did on making my own. I plan on redoing them again at some point using what I learned the first time and making some changes.

I made mine out of 18ga sheet metal and mounted speakers in them after painting them black.
