My 55 Ford F100

here is my baby, a mostly stock 55 Ford F100 conventional with a standard 223 straight 6 and 3 speed on the tree with a cable overdrive, a real barn find that sat for 26 years.

So far all i have done that's not stock is convert it to 12volt and rewire it, though i have done quite a bit of work to it as well, not finished yet its been a 2 and a half year project. feel free to ask any questions and there are more than 100 images in the build log so far.

It is almost driveable too. also it's another one of those mystery Y paint code trucks that's not quite mountain green or sea sprite green, maybe it just faded.

Thanks. I've been lurking for a while but stopped visiting a while back, life gets in the way. Hopefully I can have my baby driveable within the next few months.

I have the exact truck in red minus the overdrive. Its completely original. Fuel pump finally took a dump and I made too many excuses over the last 15 not to change it and get her up and running again. I have acquired most of the rubber for windows, door kits, IPE wood for bed and plan to use 17" oem aluminum F150 wheels from 2001. Just have to modify the bolt pattern to fit the older bolt pattern.

I also want to swap in a 4wd front axle from donor Jeep Wagoneer back in the early eighties and add a Dana 21 transfer case. The parts are just sitting around with no place to go. The front axle would need hubs and rotors changed over to Ford bolt pattern, but thats straight forward. The axle is only 1/2" off on spring perch centers. Wont take anything to alter and make fit. Leave at stock ride height with axle under front springs and whatever small blocks to level in rear.

I dont care about the paint with surface rust coming thru or seat foam is crumbling to powder. Just want it together and on road running. But this Obama gas doesnt have much of a shelf life on long term projects. Everything I have that is not driven almost daily takes a dump in about six months because fuel goes to crap.

Well thats my story and Im sticking to it.

yea I got lucky and mine has a camshaft driven fuel pump. the diaphram can wear out but its fairly bulletproof and easy enough to rebuild.

right now I'm more interested in making a fun driver. Eventually I might hot rod it up a little.

You made a good find Looks to be in fairly good shape, not too much rust.
My 55 was similar when I bought it.
Worked 6 to 8 hours every day for 1-1/2 years restoring it.

Great project you have going there. Love the color. When I was a little kid my parents had a 55 Bel Air that was that color and I wish I had used it on my 54.

fking1 theres a good bit of rust underneath it but yes I think its in great condition for its age, most of the body is very solid, especially for a florida farm truck. I eventually want to cut out the floor in the cab and install another one, or reinstall this one since it bobbles up and down due to crappy welds.

das54 I'm not crazy about the color but its got a lot of spirit so I think I'm gonna keep it this way patina and all, but its not quite mountain green or sea sprite green, seems too blue for either, too light for mountain green, and too dark for sea sprite. maybe the sun faded it over the years but all of the paint everywhere is the same color.

Great project and a fine looking truck. Once back on the road, take some time to enjoy the miles for a good bit before diving into upgrades. These brauties deserve to be seen.

Where did you find your vin number? I read somewhere that is supposed to be inside the glove box door, but it wasn't there on my truck.

There is also a VIN stamped on the frame passenger side about where the front of the door is.
