My 1949 Mercury has black fenders and a green main body. There was a discussion on ALL Mercury trucks having black fenders but some have been found to have body colour on their fenders.

The black fenders seem pretty common on the Canadian Mercs, but I recall seeing few on US produced Fords. This is one I know was US produced in Highland Park since I have it in my M-H archive. Stu

Thanks Greg and Stu. I thought I had seen pics of both Mercs and Fords with black fenders. You confirmed this.
So, what do you think was the determining factor for painting them black? I like the look on some of them I've seen, and others seemed odd, as if it didn't fit the truck.
I personally think it looks better on a truck with no rear fenders. So, the larger trucks with dump beds, grain beds or flat beds. But that's just my opinion, which doesn't amount to a hill of beans. And I hope no one takes offense if they have a truck with black rear fenders. None is meant.
Do you think the majority of Canadian Mercs had all black fenders?
I think standard production for Ford was body color fenders. If you ordered for fleet use, with a minimum quantity, I think they would paint your trucks whatever combination of standard Ford colors you wanted, for a price.

Yes, I believe Mercs had black fenders as a standard feature. Just about every period picture I've seen had them black, including this '52 auto show pic.
My truck, which was ordered and delivered as a cab and chassis in red oxide primer, had black front fenders.
No offense taken 👍
I was originally going all blue. Since I have F2 front fenders and when I find a pair of F1 fronts. I'll swap them out. I felt It would be easier to match the black, than metallic blue.
I'm glad I did. I like the look. The blue is dark so it's Hard to tell from the pic.
