Not sure why You are looking to ditch the C6 though.....is it trashed?
#3
I am pretty sure the transmission to bell pattern for that will be the square pattern, vs. the butterfly or rectangular pattern of '65 and later transmissions, including the T18 introduced in 1965.
You seem to have a lot of questions about how to make major changes to the '84. Your other thread wanders all over axle and diesel motor and stroker changes.
What's wrong with driving it as it is? If it currently runs, drives, shifts, steers, goes, stops and turns, drive it.
If you want something else very different from it, buy it.
IMO even though I like a good manual trans, I would never butcher up a running truck to put a clunky gap-toothed T98 in place of a smooth shifting properly functioning C6.
#4
Nope nothing wrong with the C6 I just miss drive a stick. Both my trucks have the C6 in them and drove my dads 95 f250 with a ZF5 today and I forgot how much fun driving stick shift is. And I need to correct myself, the T18 would possibly go on a 460 I'm thinking about buying off of the local mechanic, if not it'll go on a 351

Unless someone swapped it in there, your '63 does not have a T18. It would have had a T98.

I got bad info about it being a T18 because I had a 64' f100 4wd same engine as the 63 that I was told had a T18

oh and I can't really afford anything different because a good 4x4 92+ F150- F350 here in my area can hardly be found for under 2500. Mind that I say a "good one" as in one that hasn't had the dog s**t beat out of it! especially if it's 4wd! Not to mention you can't find a 7.3 around here under 5 or 6k! Hardly anybody wants to sell which you can't blame then since these are tough ol' trucks.

Let's see what shape the C6 is in though. I wonder if the poster has a possible donor and is kicking around options. As much as I hate to admit it...."BashBuilds" seem to have become popular. The term Rat rod has become...way over used.

Look, I think $2500 is real money just like most folks, but $2500 for a runner is NOTHING.
How much money do you think a power train swap will cost? How much time? Is your time worth anything?
Powertrain swaps can be complicated by the simplest things. Many result in the truck ending up with a tree growed up through the engine compartment, or become parts trucks for the next guy.
It's good to ask lots of questions. Make note of the answers you don't like as well them flagging your forward.
Good luck with it/them/etc.

I considered a ZF5 but my dad has had nothing but hell with the one in his 95. About every 18 months or so it has to have a new clutch and slave cylinder. This last time he had it worked on the mechanic said that there was a lot of dirt in the bell housing and that's what cause it to go out again. It all ways goes out at it's been in any kind of mud and the 4x4 has been used. I might see if I can talk my dad into swapping his 95 for my 84 since the 84 is a better truck for what he needs (farm truck)

Do you have the rubber boot in place on the clutch fork?
Dirt (mostly cilica) is going to eat up any disc in front of ANY gearbox.
Otherwise you have a seal problem and it is an oily, dirty mess in there and the fluid is soaking the friction disc.
Neither of these problems are the Zf's fault.
Your father would probably be better off with a C6, given his use of the truck.

I don't know how you are getting"dirt" in the bellhousing.

My dad actually just got the truck back for the shop yesterday and the mechanical was showing us that the pressure plate was worn and warped and he told me the other day when I went to ask him a question about something, that the slave cylinder was leaking and that sand got to it. He also replaced all the bad bearings and I'm not sure what else. I just don't have any idea what putting it in 4wd has to do with killing the slave cylinder. I like the ZF5 but I'm kinda scared of it because of the experience I've had with the one in my dads 95
