Good morning,
I redid my truck two years ago (see signature) and had a new windshield installed. At the time I also bought new OEM bright trim. The body shop that did the work had a glass shop do the work but they didn't get a chance to install the trim until later. Advance the clock two years and the top two pieces of trim are loose (clips not attached to the trim). I have pulled it off - all of the studs on the body are present as well are the clips. It appears the body shop replaced four of the metal OEM clips with aftermarket plastic clips.

For the life of my I can not get it reinstalled. Is this indicative if me not knowing what I am doing, clips not right or is the glass set incorrectly? The body shop that did the work is 150 miles from my house or else I would take it back to them.

Thoughts? Should I take it to a body shop or an auto glass shop?

 

Heesman, most glass shops have the metal replacement clips, but if you cannot locate any, I believe I have some extra ones [used].

 

And the trim just "snaps" in place on the clips that are mounted to the studs.
Getting the trim off is tricky, getting it on is easy.

 

Thanks for the replies. I knew that it was supposed to click into place but I can't get it to do it. I think the glass got set the wrong depth which puts the clips too deep. I am taking it a body shop on Monday - probably have to redo the windshield.

Most likely little of all 3 but most likely the last two.
I do have to ask did they use the "new" glue to install the glass or butyl tape? If glued I can see the glass set too high where butyl is only so thick and the glass can not be set too high - well it can if they used the wrong butyl.


And for all you that say butyl is not legal I say BS show be where it is!
You can not use it on cars/trucks that have the glass glued in but on older cars/trucks that came with butyl you can still use it.


Also what happens is the techs today don't know how to use butyl, don't have it on the truck and may take a little more time as they are not use to using it.

Mine was just installed this spring with Butyl, By a professional...

 

Bet it was an older person that did it as most of the young one glue them in now.
