Freshly painted engine and a written warning!
I got my truck back tonight. It got a new clutch, new valve cover gaskets, new rear main seal and it was painted red.
The fella who did the work was showing me and my friend who took me all his projects and we talked cars.
The engine looks great. Pictures will have to wait until tomorrow. Since we talked so long it was dark when I got home..... And since it was dark my headlights were on, or at least one of them was. I was 3 blocks from my house and as we drove by the local college campus a campus camp pulled out, followed me for a block and pulled me over one block from my house.
I explained to him that my truck had been in the body shop. The grille was out for painting and I put new headlights in but the wiring is messed up. He gave me a written warning and I have 5 days to fix it. Now get this.... I have to take my truck to the university police and show them that the headlights work! Just a few years ago they were security cops!
And then he said he could cite me for an obstructed license plate! I told him it is in the stock location, and this truck is a stock, non-altered truck, so you will have to talk to Ford about that!
So now I have to chase that wiring problem in addition to getting ready to go to Carlisle!

That guy sounds like he means business, Abe.
Local constabulary pulled me over the other day on my way to my brothers' place. Wanted to double check the stash I had in the back.
He thought his Christmas' had all come at once! Biggest bust of the year! I was caught red-handed with a stash of weed in the back.
Unfortunately, I had to disappoint him.
Agapanthus plants. Totally unsmokable (that I know of)

I'm interested in knowing how the obscured license plate thing turns out. I am sure that I will be facing the same thing. And it' won't be a problem with just the police, but it will probably be a problem when I go to get the state inspection sticker. I keep hearing that if a particular condition was part of a stock setup, then that condition (no turn signals, license plate obscured, no seat belts, etc.) then that condition is "grandfathered" in as far as the law goes. How does one prove to the "powers-that-be" that a particular condition is "grandfathered"? I assume that it will take something more than showing them photos of other stock restorations.
P.S. Abe: were you running your new halogen light(s)? How'd they (it) work for you?

I called our city police and the officer I spoke to said the university police do have arrest and citation powers usually near the campus.
I did get it fixed today. One wire that was up under the fender was disconnected. I had to make a pigtail since it was too short. Also fixed the high beam problem ... the male tip slipped out of the female socket.
Took the truck up to campus talked to the chief of campus police, he was very nice and when he walked out to check the headlights he said "Whoa, nice truck!".

Especially near a college campus where the little kiddies may not realize the streets are full of wild speeding old trucks.
